Anne Levesque practices in the areas of human rights, employment, and disability law. As a lawyer committed to promoting social justice, Anne regularly works on cases involving equality rights, accessibility, and income maintenance and support for people with disabilities.
Anne has defended the rights of her clients before many administrative tribunals such as the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario and Canada, the Social Benefits Tribunal, the Ontario Labour Relations Board and the Landlord and Tenant Board. She has also been involved in matters before the Federal Court, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Court of Appeal for Ontario and the Supreme Court of Canada. She is fluent and practices law in both official languages.
Dedication to the protection and promotion of equality and human rights has long been a passion for Anne. While in law school, she worked as a researcher in equality rights for the Court Challenges Program. Anne is presently a member of the Human Rights Committee of the Council of Canadians with Disabilities, and she also serves on the board of directors of several not-for profit organizations aiming to promote the rights of members of disadvantaged communities such as tenants and people with disabilities. Anne also volunteers with Pro Bono Canada as a supervising lawyer and is a member of the National Steering Committee of the National Association of Women and the Law.
Anne is frequently asked to provide training in the community regarding human rights and accessibility. She writes about law and human rights issues and is published in the Ottawa Law Review and the Bulletin de la Ligue des droits et libertés. She is a part-time professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ottawa.
Anne obtained a degree in political science and history from Laurentian University before enrolling in the French common law program at the University of Ottawa, where she graduated (LL.B.) with a concentration in social justice. Anne started her legal career with a Toronto law firm known for its work in constitutional law, human rights and disability law. Before joining Champ & Associates, she practiced law in a francophone community legal clinic in Ottawa in the areas of human rights, employment, immigration and income maintenance law.
